I bought a refurbished Dish DVR 508 to replace the Dish 322 I originally got with my Dish Network contract. Only after installing and activating the DVR 508 did I learn that this receiver only has one tuner and will not allow simultaneous viewing of one live show while recording another…apparently, I should have bought the DVR 721 to do that.
Wondering if there’s any way to wire the two boxes in series now to take advantage of the 322’s dual tuners and still have the recording capabilities of the 508, so that I can record one program while watching something else live?
Does anyone know a work-around for this problem, or do I need to suck it up and buy a dual tuner DVR?
Thanks!

It depends on what type of outdoor equipment you have.

If you already have two cables from the dish to the 322, you can use one for the 508, and attach a DPP Separator (not a splitter) to the 322's inputs and the other cable. At the other end of the cables you need a DPPlus LNB or switch.

If you have a standard Dish500, replacing the existing LNBs with a DPP-Twin is easy enough.

You could have bought a 522 to do that for a little more and it would have served as a two room DVR system. You would save a $5 DVR fee by not having to pay for it on the second receiver and save another $5 if your phoneline is hooked up since you did not have a second seperate receiver. That would make up for the difference of what a 508 and 522 costs over a period of 1-2 years plus you get two remotes to boot instead of one that you get with your 508 (one for each room). The 721 would not allow you two watch two different things at the same time on two different televisions (independent viewing on two televisions) but it does have two tuners in it and has no DVR fee.

Is pocketDish compatible w/ subscription music services?
