DISH Drops AMC Networks (AMC Back on DISH channel 131)

So their going to disallow amazon and itunes from next day airings?

I find that hard to believe. They haven't pulled any of the other shows. I'm still getting Hell on Wheels an episode at a time.

Yep,that's why I asked that question. One would think they are doing pretty good sales with both amazon and itunes with amc off of dish.

I agree with you buddy. My wife loves the show so I have to buy the season or at least each episode. (if the wife ain't happy, nobody happy. :D) Was looking forward to a reimbursement like they told me they would do back when the takedown occurred. Of course there is still plenty of time for something to change so I won't sweat it just yet.
the walking dead is one of my favorite shows. it would be in my top 3.

AMC underestimates one thing, I have family and friends who offered for me to watch the show off their DVR. Not so hard. Even my neighbors are die hard fans of the Walking Dead. Not so hard to walk across my lawn if I wanted. I'm sure the situation is the same for those affected.

The Fat Man,
Not to sound all "Leave it to Beaver" like, but your post reminds me of how things were when I was a kid. My Godparents had a color TV, which very few people had, and we didn't. So every Sunday I would go over and watch "The Wonderful World of Disney" in color. It was fun. My Godparents would make popcorn and we all watch the show together. You getting together with your neighbors to watch "The Walking Dead" sounds like fun and I bet will make watching the program even better! Enjoy!

But you will have to wait until the season is over to get it on the roku. AMC said streaming would be delayed at least a month matching just like how Netflix has to wait for new releases.
Guess they were on to Dishes game of giving out roku.

Link to that statement? Thanks...

So far, the discussion has been how to legally obtain these episodes. Usenet is just one of the many ways to get these episodes, guaranteed, the next day in HD. However, I believe that kind of discussion is prohibited on satelliteguys.

POSTING copyrighted materials to Usenet may be "illegal" (in the US, subject to fair use and other possible exceptions). What authority do you have that DOWNLOADING such materials is "illegal"?

Torrents are different in that while you download, you also propagate (upload) them at the same time. This is also true of some of other "file sharing" services. Plainly, this violates US law.

Last I looked I could not find a single case of a Usenet downloader in the US having legal problems on copyright issues. It would be akin to prosecuting someone for buying a bootleg DVD on the street, except in the Usenet example you are not even providing the violator with a financial incentive to violate the law.

Posters have been sued. Some Usenet services have had legal issues related to facilitating the dissemination of copyrighted materials. But I know of nothing of authority that makes it plain that simply downloading such material is illegal. It is not kiddy porn, where simple possession is prohibited.

People assume they know the answer on this issue, but when you ask them to prove it, they usually just point to someone else who said the same thing based upon the same assumption.

BTW, notwithstanding what I posted, I can understand MORAL arguments about the practice generally. However, to me, injecting morality into something like the Dish/AMC dispute is laughable. It is like the clash between Hitler and Stalin (Godwin forgive me). Frankly, I'd like to see them both suffer.

.

I agree that it would make it better. That's actually how my wife and I first saw the walking dead. We were arty her uncles and a marathon was on leading up to the season premier. It was fun and everyone got hooked on the show.

None. I'm just suggesting you tread lightly when discussing this particular aspect of the topic as it can easily turn into a" how-to", something that is explicitly forbidden on this site.

Well, I haven't done that, though I don't know why a "how to" on something not known to be illegal is forbidden. Seems to stand the presumptions of a free society upside down! But I will play be the rules, even if I find them silly.

WRONG Usenet is paid for service as opposed to torrents. It's legal so not something like P2P which is torrents. Usenets were around when the net was being put together and still are. I pay for one monthly myself and as far as I know there is nothing illegal about it so there fore not illegal to talk about it here.

Downloading copy-written content from Usenet is not legal even if you pay for it. Just because it's may not be the main focus of industry legal action like torrents are at the moment doesn't make it more permissible. Don't confuse convenience with legality.

The legal avenues of getting AMC shows are though video services that have deals with AMC. (Amazon, iTunes, Netflix, etc.)

Illegal avenues of distribution are torrents, Usenet, and sites that host streaming video that do not have AMC's approval. You paying these sites money for access does not make it legal.

Say what? We can't talk about usenet or post links because a few of the thousands of threads contain copyrighted material? That's like taking down an entire domain for the sins of a few!
