Dish dispute with Media General looming.....has it been 3 years already?

by the way, Media General is in the process of being purchased by Nexstar but there are some issues that need ot be taken care of first...mainly in markets where there is both MG & Nexstar what station Nexstar wants to keep and what station is going to get sold off.
Same sh!t, different buyer. The last time this happened, the old Media General was being purchased by Young Broadcasting (they kept the Media General name after the merger) and we did not get the stations back until the merger went through, and Dish's existing contract with Young took effect for the affected stations. When was Dish's last dispute with Nexstar? History could repeat itself this time, and then we could still have another disruption whenever the old Nexstar contract expires.

If t was as forecasted by croc, I would venture to guess the FCC would definitely get involved this time and change the carriage rules. Allowing imports of local channels during renewals, for example. Wheeler started the process last time, if Dish and Sinclair couldn't play nice.

Something is really wrong when one entity is allowed to own so many stations in one market. In the Albuquerque-Santa Fe NM market, Media General owns the Fox, CBS and CW channels plus one other channel. That accounts for over half of the local programs that I watch. Is congress responsible for allowing this kind of near monopoly grip on a market or is it the FCC?

Media General owns FOX & CBS (they are allowed to as there are 8 full powered station in Alb/Santa Fe market)
The My & CW are owned by someone else. MG just helps with technical and engineering services (a shared service agreement). Otherwise the stations are run separately from CBS & FOX

Local TV Multiple Ownership
The rule allows an entity to own up to two TV stations in the same DMA if either (1) the service areas – known as “Grade B signal contours” – of the stations do not overlap; or (2) at least one of the stations is not ranked among the top four stations in the DMA (based on market share), and at least eight independently owned TV stations would remain in the market after the proposed combination.

Thanks for the reply. I didn't read the footnotes from Wikipedia which shows "Owned by Tamer Media, LLC, Media General operates the stations through an SSA." I hope that means that the CW station isn't up for renewal right now. I don't watch anything on the My TV station.

FOX and CBS are running warnings periodically at the bottom of the screen. I have a Hopper and hate that 2 PTAT stations are both owned by Media General.

Thanks for the reply. Media General owns both the CBS and Fox stations in my market. These 2 stations were previous owned by LIN Media and merged into Media General in 2014. The last dispute with LIN in 2013 did not go well and we lost both channels for about a week.

I think these 2 stations are among the top 4 in the Albuquerque - Santa Fe NM market. Both transmit from the Sandia peak antenna farm, so the service area overlaps. I wish the FCC would have forced them to sell one of the stations to get approval for the merger.

In the event that our stations are no longer carried by DISH, you may continue to watch your favorite local programming over-the-air via antenna or by switching to an alternative pay-TV provider. For your convenience, we have provided a list of alternative pay-TV providers on this web page.

Thank you for supporting local television.
The last line it the part I find hilarious... these "locals" owned by an out of state company broadcast from 300 miles away from my part of NM ... ;)

Just saw the crawl on WNCN here for the first time. Will be interesting since this station just swapped affiliations with another in our market. The last time this happened they were the NBC station in town, now they are CBS.
