i need to know where to measure my dish declination on my 6ft speacial with and inclinometer.I am going to aim my dish and mount to my true south and lock the mount down and set my skew and just move my dish by hand like it has a motor...i am the motor for right now..but just need to know where to set the inclinometer to measure declination.

The declination is the difference between the polar angle, and the angle of the dish. I think the following picture will explain it. BTW, just finding your true south sat, will not track the arc, You will have to also find a sat on the end of the arc to get the azimuth (E -West rotation of the mount on the pole) correct, then lock down the mount on the pole.

I should have clarified>The declination is the difference between the polar angle, and the angle of the dish< This is at Zenith. Notice in the pic, there are two places to measure each(polar and dish) angle. If measuring one against the other, there is a 90 degree difference that has to be accounted for. I.E: Polar elevation and Latitude are 90 apart. As is dish elevation, and what's many times referred to a "extreme angle".
Polar elevation is declination degrees higher than dish elevation.
Extreme elevation is declination degrees higher than your latitude.
NOTE: latitude will be modified slightly (<1 degree)when using the "Modified Declination Angles"
Then align to arc, using normal procedure. The dish doesn't care how it's moved, rotated on, the polar pivot. Bud Manual may help some also.

thanks fat air,you know what you are doing in this fta hobby,i will never learn what you know about fta.You provided good info but all i wanted to know was it possible for me to lock down my mount and move my dish by hand across the clark belt and receive satellites just as it would if i had a motor?... i just can't get into technical stuff..but thanks anyway

ghetto moving 6footer

hi ice, hope you don't mind me going to and old post of yours and asking you for help on setting my 6footer without motor thats mounted on polar mount to be set up for ghetto moving. My latitude is 32.2 and my longitude is 88.1,can you help me with declination and elevation because i am still new to c band...thanx

I broke your post off of an old thread. In most cases its easier to start a new thread

As for "ghetto moving" my dishes are a fixed mount. What it sounds like you have is a motorized dish without the motor (since you mention polar mount) so I assume the elevation and declination angles would be the same as a motorized

my true southh

hi guys,i am aiming for my true south to mount an actuator to my 6 footer. My true south is 89west but could i use 91west or 87west as my true south since i can get some strong signals and good quality on my stb?

I have a thread started ice could u give me some hints. I have been at it all day
