I have canceled dish network and today I got a notification on returning equipment. I own one Vip 622 and the other one was leased. Based on this e-mail, picture attached, I am not sure if I return the receiver or smart card or both? Plus am I paying the shipping fees in this case.

Thank you

the leased receiver and LNB if you can get to it. Also any switches (if installed)
smart card stays in there...some are built in but yes return the card too (just for the leased unit)

Keep the one you own (obviously)

It's pretty clear. You will receive one box and one envelope. The box is for the leased 622 and the envelope is for the owned 622's smart card. You will be charged $15 for the receiver and maybe also for the smart card. They will come with a label and all you have to do is take them to either UPS if that's the shipping method or FedEx.

What confused me is if you look at the screen shot , the leased 622 says Obsolete, and they say a return kit will not be sent for obsolete equipment. Thanks

thats a glitch in Dish's system. Dish still gives out 622's so you do need to return the leased one

Hi, I do apologize about the obsolete marking on your e-mail. The leased ViP622 receiver will need to be retunrd complete with smart card if one is present inside the receiver. If you can return the LNBF, we will take that as well, if not please just PM me and I will remove that item from the return list to be sure you will not be charged for it in the future. There will be a $15.00 charge for returning the equipment if you chose to use our label or you can use any alternative method for mailing the equipment back to us. If you have any additional questions or concern, please just let me know.

I just canceled last week myself. Below is a scan from the info in the return box. Although I completely understand why you ask, they are going to want the 622 back. It is current mpeg4 equipment. What I do not understand is why they would want 322s and 522s back. They are mpeg2 equipment. I do not think they are doing mpeg2 installs anymore. Also they had me send the LNB back. Whats up with that. It was close to three years old. Do they actually use three year old used LNBs for installs or repairs?

Possibly pulling the plug?, many people are doing it. With some adjustment life goes on without the tube & a completely unnecessary expense?.?.?>

I went with DirecTV. The new HR34 5 tuner dvr is awesome. I also got a second HDDVR for my sons room. I now never have to worry about not having enough tuners to record what I want at any given time; What what I record does not have any effect on what anyone else in the house watches. All my TVs are now in HD. I can watch any recording from either DVR in any location in the house. By taking advantage of all the new customer promos, refer a friend and every discount I could find. I will save right at $350 over the course of the next two years vs staying with dish and that is even after paying an upfront $198 equipment fee. I also think the HD picture quality is a little better. In a nut shell Better Equipment, Picture, and Price.

Why did they charge you an equipment fee? Special equipment? Or do they try to nail people with bad and unestablished credit with extra fees the way Dish does?

I'm just curious, because I'm always trying to keep an ear to the ground to see whether I'd get a better deal with another provider when my contract expires. I like to have a bit more loyalty to that, but I know these companies don't have any loyalty to me, and they keep raising rates beyond what I can afford for what I want, so moving around and snatching up promotional rates is probably something that just has to be done.

The 5 tuner HR 34 is there latest and Greatest and has only been out a month. Everyone pays a $99 upgrade to get it. I also had to pay $99 because I wanted a second DVR. So I wanted special equipment. If I had gone with one DVR and 3 plain HD boxes there would have been no equipment fee. As far as this goes I think if you ordered Dish right now you would pay extra to get a 922 if the are even letting them out again yet.

311 & 322 are 8PSK compatible and yes they are still doing some installs with SD equipment
The 322 they are actually gutting tuner 2 and calling it a 311k

What happened is dish's system just put everything in wrong spot. Slide everything over to right one cell and problem solved. If you don't know which one is purchased call dish and ask for rcvr number of the leased one and return it. Don't need to touch the purchased one. The sc is yours along with the rcvr. And yes 15 dollars for return is valid unless you can return cheaper.

The HR34 is $99...normally 399 but rebates
You can add up to 3 HD receivers for free
DVR is $99 extra

Thanks for the info guys.

THats a great thing to know with D* helping out with the ETF. Now I have to actually look into switching. One question for D* owners. Can you get the NFL RedZone channel without buying the Sunday ticket on D*? If this is possible, I think I may have to pull the trigger and go for one of these systems.

the ST red zone channel is different than the "other" red zone....but they work kinda the same

Folks have been able to get it without NFL ST but you have to call and be pretty persistent
