Dish can seriously go pound sand!

Now we no longer get CW (which was a channel my wife liked). The tech did say that we could buy/install our own larger dish to try and pick up St Louis locals in HD, and all that would require.

Your tech is being a little facetious. A bigger dish wouldn't do it, and even if it did, Dish couldn't turn you on in the St. Louis DMA because of the FCC rules. You'd have to 'move' to somewhere in the St. Louis DMA.

Maybe the installer is thinking about a larger dish needed to pick up a close by spotbeam. 77 requires a larger dish to prevent interference from neighboring satellite which causes pixellation on an 18 inch dish (I know from personal experience).

Even if he is in Paducah, he should get the locals in SD. They only put the HD stuff on 77.

Actually if you check the "Subscription List" you'll see that Dish also broadcast MPEG4 SD from the 77 sat, including a few SDs for Paducah.

In Macon, we're getting all the HD and SD locals off the 77. Unfortunately FOX and ABC are only being shown in SD for whatever reason (contractural issues??) so their SD versions are being broadcasted instead off a different transponder than their HD version, which are apparently just sitting there waiting to be turned on.

It looks as if they wanted a complete set of locals on 77 for the Paducah DMA. The only SD mpeg4 on 77 is thase channels that are not in HD at all.

Is there ANY use for a DishPlayer 7100?

Disney HD back on dish?
