Dish Audits

You can freeze an account to prevent it from receiving programming, that's "technically" not disconnecting service as the account is just suspended. The system is just waiting on verification before services can be restored. Consider it a IRS audit of your receivers.

Having been through this twice in 2006, I can only report what went down and what others have reported as well.

There must be hundreds of thousands of E* subscribers that don't have a phone line connected to their receiver.
I wonder how much E* spends on personnel to make these audit calls?
I wonder how much of our bill(expected price increase included) goes toward paying people to make these audit calls?

Curious minds.....

It check sum read back to them allows them to see if you have outstanding PPV charges that have not "phoned home" especially if no phone line is connected.

I personally suspect that is where most of the revenue for this "department" comes in.

That is not correct....PPV has nothing to do with it.
The location id is based on receiver id & time of day.

Your assuming the audit team exists to generate revenue, and not to protect it.

You don't think the check sum will will change depending on if the PPV sum reported is $0 or not $0?

I happen to know because of a PPV that I had watched earlier overnight caused that receiver to fail during the test because it had not called it in yet and after a second attempt with the same results - as they went through the various screens looking to find out why - one was the PPV logging where a HD PPV that I had recorded overnight had not reported yet.

After finding this as the reason, that had me hit the phone test line, it reported in (was a ViP211) came back and cleared the STB and the account.
