Hello all, I did some searches and could not find what I was looking for so I apologize if this info was already posted. I am a seasonal camper and I have two Hoppers with Sling and High speed internet at both my home and my RV. Can I buy a Sling Box and watch my DVR from the RV? I know I can use a PC, Smart Phone, or a tablet, but I am looking for a better solution aside from just installing another DVR. Is there any apps I can download to my TV or Blue ray Player? Any Thoughts? Thanks.

So both Hoppers w/Sling are at your house and you're looking for a way to watch what's on them on your RV TV?

I think LG was planning on offering a TV for a while that had a Slingplayer client on it but it appears to be forgotten now. I think the Western Digital TV streamer may be the only option at this point.

To answer TechWriter's challenge, no -- there aren't any streamers for DISHAnywhere.

Dpending what phones/tablets you (Apple vs Android) you can buy Lightning to HDMI adapter to mirror your mobile device on your TV. From what I have garnered on the subject, Androids are better suited to the task.

I get the feeling that the TS was looking for more of a conventional solution with a unified remote control and all.

I feel their pain as I'm shopping for a sophisticated alarm clock radio and they're getting increasingly hard to find due to smart phone technology (why would anyone want to use an alarm clock that has to be aperiodically charged?).

The Sling with the Hopper is different from an actual Slingbox. If you don't have a Slingbox connected to a Hopper there is no app available in any device aside from the Dishanywhere app. I am not aware of that app being available other than in what you have listed. An actual Slingbox does have apps available in at least three streaming boxes that allows use of a remote.
I know it isn't what you were looking for, but using a laptop connected by HDMI to the TV does work very well.

Compared to one that has to be constantly plugged into a power outlet, or have batteries changed, and the possibility of it dying right before you need it while you sleep? I use my phone as my alarm, and considering I can not only customize the alarm tone to anything I want it to be, I can also change certain things like how long snooze is, have as many alarms set as I want(I'm not a morning person so I currently have 6 or 7 different alarms set on my phone each morning), can set alarms for specific days(my alarms for my school days are different and my alarms for my weekend are different), it automatically changes time zones, and can do so much more than any "sophisticated" alarm clock I have seen elsewhere. They are becoming harder to find, because they take up space, and have less abilities than phones(same reason the digital camera trend has gone drastically down).

My current clock has a nine volt backup system and it will even ring if the power is out.

Sangean makes an clock radio that sets itself and will tune an AM or FM radio station. It knows which days are weekends and has a nap feature that doesn't mess with the alarms.

Grace Digital makes a nifty streaming radio that has some alarm functionality.

I looked at Android alarm clock apps and they are not particularly sophisticated as compared with something like the Chumby/Sony Dash. Most only play from the music resident on the phone if they play music at all.

If your goal is to solve a puzzle to get your alarm to shut off, an app might be just the ticket. If you want a low maintenance clock radio, it is hard to beat a clock radio.

I certainly don't want to have to buy a reasonable quality external speaker (that may not work if the power is off) to use a tablet or phone effectively.

I'd be interested in what battery powered iDevice or Android phone can guarantee that it won't die overnight (bluetooth can be a real battery eater). A coworker has a smart watch that dies on him at least once a week and another charges his iPhone at least once a day.

Being responsible with my iPhone, it has never died over night, as I have made sure I have the settings set to consume the least power, plus the new iOS has a power save mode when reaching 20% and 10% battery strength. I haven't charged my phone since yesterday morning and I am at 19% battery, and still going strong, so to answer your question, and iPhone.

As far as your alarm assessment, I disagree, but it's a moot point so I'm not going to argue.

I have relied on my Smartphones (Androids) for quite sometime for alarms. I have an old analog cell phone and use that also at times as a back-up. But I would use a back-up for important times to wake up even if I was using an alarm clock.

HEY........WAKE UP!!! Sorry I'm late, you should have used an Android phone... ;)
