Dish America Questions

I think EPIX is in the BB@Home package

edit: yes they are (Epix 1,2,3)

They also are available separately (as a package of 3) for $7 yes, but as noted you don't need both.
Once again, I feel people are missing the point. Dish would not be getting, in this case of say just Epix $7. They would get whatever is over their cost. At the price point of the Welcome package it is very possible they are barely coming out ahead. The amount they get at $7 may be ok when someone has a full package, but not enough when they add it to a package already barely making them any money. Why encourage someone to stay at the Welcome package.

You can add Premium Movie packs to the Welcome pack with out issue , why not Epix? For that matter why not Blockbuster if you are willing to pay the extra $10.00 a month , why should DISH care? Either you are for ala cart like DISH says they are , or you are not. Why should there be all this confusion about what you can add to the Welcome pack?

Because HBO/Showtime or VOD/PPV are very high profit channels. In fact they may be the only profit Dish really gets if someone has a Welcome package. I don't think there is anything near that profit in the BB package. What is in it for Dish to keep someone with lots of programming and very little profit? There's a reason almost no one else has that low of a cost package.

Ok, the dish 1000.2 WA system is installed and signal quality improved accross the board. The DPP44 switch, power inserter and 4 long coax runs have been removed from the system and I added the Heartland Package and a new TV1 remote control. I also have a dedicated dish installed for 61.5 and ordered an extra TV2 remote control and OTA module for the VIP722K receiver.

Question:
I was unable to complete the dedicated 61.5 dish due to not having a LNB holder. The dish is an older DirecTV dish (probably 18" round). What LNB holder would I use to hold the Dish Network DP Plus LNB? The dual one shown in the picture below? Do they make a single LNB holder for a Dish Network LNB?

Dish 1000.2 Installation

Here are the results of my dish 1000.2 installation replacing an existing dish plus system which had problems since the day it was installed over 3 years ago.

Old system had four long coax runs coming from the dish to a DPP 44 switch located on the side of the house. About 20' of this coax ran within the gutter causing it to be submerged within water and frozen during the winter. The system was also never grounded. A power inserter to power the DPP44 switch was located downstairs within my communications room. Dish had one LNB for 118.7 and 119 (locals were on 118.7 several years ago), one LNB for 110 and one LNB for 129. I noticed that one LNB had a cracked LNB lens and I could hear loose pieces of plastic inside. One of the other LNB's looked much older than the other and was probably installed during one of our many unsuccessful service calls.

New system has a single coax (RG-6 Quad shield swept tested to 3GHz) from the dish away from the gutter going to a 3GHz grounding block within a weatherproof case. A second coax then goes from the grounding block into the house to the VIP722K receiver. A bare copper wire is attached from the grounding block to the ground rod located near the power meter. The new LNB has 110, 119 and 129 fully enclosed.

Satellite / Transponder - Dish Plus - Dish 1000.2 (no adjustment) - Dish 1000.2 (adjusted)
129-10 - 18 - 30 - 32 (local Pittsburgh SD)
129-17 - 36 - 45 - 51
129-18 - 32 - 43 - 49
129-22 - 30 - 43 - 49

119-07 - 49 - 45 - 55
119-06 - 68 - 70 - 81
119-13 - 62 - 57 - 68
119-20 - 68 - 75 - 82 (WSBK SD)

110-11 - 74 - 63 - 76 (Hallmark SD)
110-02 - 73 - 70 - 79 (KTV SD)
110-15 - 71 - 60 - 72 (Boomerang SD)

After I purchase a LNB holder I'm going to complete the dedicated 61.5 dish installation which will be connected to the LNB IN on the dish 1000.2 system.

Yet they allow 8 channels of Encore to be added for only $5. I should subscribe before they take these away too.

Yes they do and on my account for my aunt , she has both Welcome pack + Encore pack and pays only 19.99 a month. I still think that DISH needs to allow HD channels on the welcome pack & family packs ,if you have an hd receiver. If they want to charge a $10.00 hd fee for that privilege ,then go for it. Then they could allow both Blockbuster and Epix packs to the Welcome and Family packs without losing anything on DISH's side.

The issue is if you add the "I" adapter now the focal sweet spot will be off. You'd have to hack off part of the arm on the Directv dish to make the length the same

Good point. Perhaps I'll dig through my collection of dishes in the garage to see if I can come up with something.

The "I" adapter works fine with a Dish500

But I guess why would you want to add 61.5 when you already have WA and the locals are on both arcs?

Can anyone please tell me if any of the Encore channels are available in HD within the $5 Encore channel package? The Dish Network website doesn't specify this.

I was thinking of adding 61.5 as a backup and to see if the signal strength would be better than on 129. I also have two large trees on each side of the western arc which sometimes reduces the signal during the spring and summer months.

Today I received the OTA module I purchased on EBay last Friday and installed it into my VIP722K receiver. It's working great and it scanned in 22 OTA channels.

Just purchased a new Dish 500 I LNB adapter very cheap on EBay for the dedicated 61.5 dish.
