Playing Devil's Advocate...So how long did it take the Redmond Rejects to get Winblows to work nicely? At least E* receivers are backwards compatible...:o

Enough already. Put your pom-poms away and get real. The box has been out for a considerable amount of time. At $399 retail, the damn thing should be able to go from an OTA channel to satellite without bugging out. The damn thing should be able to keep its guide without having to suffer through a 3-5 minute reboot process. The damn thing should friggin work and IT DOESN'T FRIGGIN WORK THE WAY IT IS SUPPOSED TO !!!!!! I shouldn't have to do a power reset on a regular basis. I'm not signed up for pre-release software. Why did 2.81 go out to the masses only to need 2.82 weeks later due to a @%$@#% Guide??? :mad:

Sorry to burst your bubble but there's P283 scheduled for December and P284 Scheduled for January, so perhaps you should pick up your pom poms and send a lovey cheer to the company you love to hate. BTW Direct is only a phone call away...Adjust your thong and take a gander at how you like their equipment pricing...I don't know a lot of people who paid more than $200 for the 811. And quite frankly the majority of the 811 users are leasing and don't own it....

You definitely need to chill out. It's just a machine. If you don't like it, then unplug it, cut your losses and go with D*.
For the majority of users, the 811 is an "acceptable" machine, that delivers most of what we could expect. Nobody is forcing you to keep yours. If you're so displeased with it, get rid of it. I happen to be very pleased with mine. Is it perfect?. No. Is it worth putting up with? It is in my, and many others opinions. I wouldn't trade it for anything else out there.
Just my take on the situation.

I thought it was called the 811, when was it's name changed ;)

Anyways, this thread is reserved for the folks that actually have the P282 update so we can focus on the results of the update, thanks :)

I only paid $100.00 for my 811 and it handily outperforms the last OTA receiver I owned(Samsung)

Is this patch supposed to fix the re-introduced problem with guide info only going out 2 hours or so? I'm getting a little annoyed at having to reset my 811 almost daily to pick up the guide info. Of course, my 811 was free (own it), so for the money I'm very happy with it.

This takes us back to gpflepson's comments earlier.

Supposedly, if the guide was interrupted while refreshing...i.e. you change the channel while it is refreshing, it would either 1.) corrupt the guide info displayed, or 2.) not download all of the available data...hence I was told is the reason they locked out the ability to change channels during the guide data refresh....The release notes have EPG listed several times with various patches....will it be fixed...that yet remains to be seen...I haven't had a problem yet....but anybody that has P282 at this point hasn't had it long enough to explore it fully yet....Let's revisit this issue in a couple days....I'm sure users would get a good feeling for this one by then.

My 811 took the P282 download today and the BSOD problem that I frequently had prior to P282 appears to be gone. I would usually get it when I aggressively channel surfed especially between OTA HD and satellite SD/HD. I have been aggressively channel surfing this evening with no BSOD. In addition, I now get about 40 hours worth of OTA HD channel guide data. I am very encouraged so far.

I got a word from outside ;) - spooling of the P2.82 going at very low speed ( around 50 kbps , 4 times slow then usual ) ; size is the same; serial numbers range: 58100000...60265000 for today.

The last 2 revs some users, including myself, had issues getting the download to take....as a result I believe it was slowed....We were talking about this earlier....seems to be consensus.

Don't know if this is related...But I got a couple of Digital OTA's back from the 49% that I lost in P280

I got some more tidbits. Is someone seen this ?
Code:

* Hi. The fact that you are seeing this means that the *
* system has booted and all the tasks have started. Now, *
* that doesn't mean that the box isn't frozen or otherwise *
* broken right now, it just means that execution has gotten *
* to the end of the main task and it is now sleeping. *
*                                                              *
*                                                              *

Are you using a BlackBird? Is this a displayed message from the 811, from the 811 in debug mode, or are you reading the stream with Blackbird or similar cypher? I think your posting something 98% of users don't even knows exists.

No, just reading other forums; seems to me that ppl using just DVB-S cards and PC. At least I see they are using TSReader as an engine for obtain the info.
:rolleyes: I do believe that you found this on another forum, this looks like stream data...and you did post R ID series numbers earlier....

I will not take it as my knowledge; do you know how to debug the receiver ? Would it help owners to provide some usefull data from debug screen(s) for Dish ?
No...one mode is a hex only mode, one is just a visable echo mode. No info a CSR would understand here and frankly not many people even know how to get to it. Mainly for engineering test data.

Well, perhaps someday Dish coders will make same trick as for PVR522 and will download all debugging data by phone. Hope it will speedup bug's squashing process. :)
