That is a personal decession, I don't think it is necessary for me even though I do have a HDTV set OTA gives me everything I want. Food Net in HDTV is still Food Net the SD version can make me hungry. The best TV is the one you own.

Yes, it is worth getting.
The TV that you get to go with it is entirely different for each circumstance:
1. If you have a dedicated theatre room go with a CRT front projector.
2. If it is a family room with lots of light - probably a DLP/IDLA or LCD.
3. A very small room maybe even a CRT direct view set.
