I recently had my DISH 1000 dish installed on the front of my townhouse. My association hasn't complained yet, due to the fact they are scared of me as we have had some battles in which they lost. But I don't like where it is and on the day of the installation it was snowing and cold and the installer didn't want climb on my roof which I can't blame him. I live in a Aurora, IL about 40 miles west of Chicago. I want to move my dish to my deck where a plan to use the pole in a bucket of cement approach. I can bolt the bucket to my deck and stabilize the pole with the deck rail. I have a 10' pole but I think I'll knock 2' off. I have a clear line of site to the satellites. So, my question is if I just take the dish from its current location and point it correctly without adjusting the skew or elevation will I be OK?

PLUMB is the word here!:) :)

Assuming that your dish is currently mounted on a highly plumb mast, and the pole you put on the deck is just as highly plumb, yes - you will only have to find the azimuth (left/east to right/west).

And if the masts are plumb, and only a hair off, you still should not have any problems. Maybe you might have to adjust the elevation slightly to improve signal strength. The more the mast is not plumb, the more the arch across the sky changes and does not follow the arch of the 3 satellites you are trying to get.

EDIT:
Since you are planning on moving it to a pole, may I suggest.
- Leave the mast in its current position.
- Mark the dish bracket and mast, so that you can quickly re-install it.
- Don't touch the Skew and Elevation settings.
- After you get the dish moved and working, then remove the mast and foot from the front. But if you have any problems and delay the completion, you can always go back to it in less than 5 minutes.:D

Thanks. I was planning on marking the current mask so I can re-install the dish if I can't get a signal. Trying to save the installation charge of $100 to move the dish.
