Seeing how the dish 1000 is new to the market, which mount is best pole mount or mast mount on the roof? I refering to both signal quality and signal loss.

Really no difference, I would say more of a preference. As long as you have line of sight it all depends on your preference. I prefer to mount a dish on a pole whenever possible just due to the fact that it is easier maintenace if any and the possiblility of snow and ice accumalation on the roof. Just keep in mind future thee growth or new houses being built in the area if deciding on a pole mount.

The masts that come with the Dish1000 are a little taller to make up for the possibility of the dish pointing more downwards do it does not hit the curve of the mast going to the foot. In most situations any mast that works on a Dish300/Dish500/DirecTv dishes should work (1 5/8" diameter).

Thank you for all your responces, I'm going to move the dish from the pole mount on the ground as right now i have a fairly good line of sight, but the neighbors have a tree that might start to get in the way here soon, so the roof will enshure, just wanted to know what everyones thoughts were.

I often swap the D1000 mast for a D500 one when I don't need the extra length.

You can always use the D1000 mast for a D500, but not always the ther way around.

That is what I do as well SimpleSimon because there are a lot fewer of those longer masts around. You never know who could use one in other areas where the dishes are pointed lower (may demand a little more of a premium - higher resale - more than the regular masts used with Dish 300/500).

That's good news then. You could use the foot since it's already attached to whatever structure you are using to mount the mast and the reflector for a D1000.

Thanks guys.

The reason for the additional length has nothing to do with the dish pointing downward more. The satellite elevation angles do not change for a particular location.

The REAL reason is the additional "horizontal offset," in the case of wall mounting. The Dish1000 is a little wider, and the additional "horizontal offset" allows "swing" clearance, should the Line Of Sight come close to being parallel to the wall on which the arm is mounted.

In cases where the mount will not be swung close to a wall or a roof deck, the older shorter arm would actually make for a sturdier mount, since the "lever arm" for loading forces such as wind would be lower.

Has anyone who is a new customer install received a Dish1000 yet? Or is this a strictly upgrade dish? I am scheduled for a November 26th new install and want to know if anyone has asked for one of these yet, and if they will allow it.

I am an independent installer who services a number of dealers. I am in the Greenville-Spartanburg, South Carolina DMA area. We have been installing Dish 1000's for about two months for NEW customers. Prior to this, a 61.5 wing dish was needed to complement a Dish 500 in order to get ALL of the locals.

Yeah - way back in mid-September, even before it went "official".

I think the only problem I've had with Dish regarding the D1000 is trying to get approval for the "dish mover" installs and allowing a D1000 instead of the D500/must-carry tandem. At least here in Ohio, it's pretty much an every day occurance with new installs having a D1000. Other than the extra wire (from the DPP Twin to DP Dual), I've found them to be just as easy to install as D500s.

Thanks for the responses, that's good to know. I would like to get a Dish1000 along with hooking up a dish at 61.5 since I am interested in getting CBS-HD from NY since CBS in Chicago here is so hard to get on OTA channel 3. I still have my Voom dish on the roof, so I'm hoping they can re-use some of it. I would like to get the Dish1000 in case something goes up on 129 that I can't get at 61.5. Talking to a Dish CSR today, I think I really confused him by asking if my work order had a Dish1000 on it instead of a Dish500. He could only tell me something about a two dish install and something about dish 1000/129. I really couldn't understand him very well. O well, I'll just wait and see.
