DirecTV: We'll Offer 4KTV Broadcasts Before Year's End

Directv will probably offer VOD 4k by the end of this year. Next year or 2016 Directv wants to be able to stream 4k but still no plans to offer a 4k channel.

Actually, I'm expecting a channel of 4k, much like they did with 3d in the beginning, then to look at the picture as a whole and add on when others do.

White said that this year's effort would be VoD (as opposed to PPV) so I don't think they're in a position to do it in real time via satellite quite yet.

I was about to buy 3 new tv for my house yesterday and then the sales guy said Directv will have 4k content by the end of year.

Does anybody know when directv is going to push 4K packages and should I wait to buy 4K tv

I have also heard the same. It will be just like HD, there won't be hardly any content for it at first and it will take a long time before broadcasts are in 4K.

Official word on 4k just came out... think sooner rather than later.

It's pretty limited, not just the fact that it is PPV movies which we expected, but it also is very limited as to what hardware is supported and how it is setup.
