Actually, DirecTV has a potential customer base of 99% of the American public.
You can keep writing that over and over, but the fact is the vast majority do not want DirecTV, proven by the fact it has lost, roughly, 11 Million Subscribers and continues to lose.
And the owners of DirecTV have acknowledged that fact when they announced they would no longer design/build/launch any new Satellites.
Also acknowledged by the facts that they are not designing any new equipment.
Plus the cost of the internet service. Plus the cost of Peacock, Paramount, HBO, Netflix, Hulu, Disney, ESPN+, plus a linear provider to access things like ESPN, FS1, and, for many people, access to OTA signals that are not available.
Who needs a linear provider anymore, I get the vast majority of programming without it plus all the exclusive stuff you cannot get with a Traditional Provider.
I have already pointed out that my total monthly costs for Peacock, Paramount, Hulu, Disney, ESPN+,AMC+,MLB, NETFLIX, HBOMAX, Showtime and Apple TV is less then $90 a month.
How much would a average monthly DirecTV bill be with HBO and Showtime added in.
I also get access to ESPN 3 via my Spectrum Broadband.
I miss out on very little and actually way behind on many shows because of so much content.
The idea that there is some guy out there so cheap that he only has Prime, but is going to shell up $300 minimum for ST is laughable.
Who only has Prime for just video?
I have it for shipping, since my wife passed I have become a real homebody, Amazon has made that even easier, for example I needed Purina Pro Dry Dog Food two days ago, ordered, here yesterday, need XLR Cables for the redo of my outdoor theater ( had to take it all down because of last week’s Hurricane), will be here today after ordering this morning.
Google the business term “self-selection”. The number of people who want ST is a known number. If not the number who have it now, certainly the number who had it when there were no other choices besides one cable company, DirecTV and DISH. If they wanted it, why didn’t they get it back then?
It is not a known number because the majority of the United States Population have never had DirecTV, only a small minority, even at it’s highest sub numbers ( 21 million in 2017), it was less then 19% of households in the United States.
But the vast majority do want Broadband.
Neither. The number of subscribers to this niche service is a known number.
There have been many from this small community here that do not have DirecTV and have posted they will get it once it goes streaming.
I assume that is true from many more.
The idea that it can make money is the most laughable idea and flies in the face of EVERY analyst of this industry.
Totally an opinion since we have no idea what the contract will cost, what the terms are and how many subs they will attract.
But when the availability increases from 10 Million to over 100 Million, of course it will get more, how many more is a unknown.
