Hello everyone and thanks for posting all this good info. I'm new to the forum but not to DirecTV. I'm trying to figure out a signal strength problem I'm recently having with my DirecTV HD signals--transponder 119 in the Northern NJ area, oval dish. I'm sure the trees are the issue as they probably have grown in the 4 years since I moved into my current house. I see 2 options; 1) cut the trees down 2) raise the dish and repoint. Relocating won't work since the trees are everywhere and the roof/chimney area is the best location. If I raise the dish and securley place it on a pole about 5 feet in the air (on the roof of the house above the chimney), will it be subject to problems with shaking from high winds and other weather related issues? Any other options? I prefer not to cut down the trees.

Thanks

First of all, welcome to Satguys!
A small correction. You are referring to the satellite at 119 degrees, not transponder 119.
To answer your question, yes the trees are likely your problem. You could trim them, or raise the dish. If well secured, you will be fine. I have my AT9 on a nine foot pole with no issues, and have seen many smaller dishes like yours on similiar poles. You will have to use a tripod on the roof. Don't go too close to the chimney, though. The heat could be very bad for the dish and lnbs. Good luck!

I'm assuming that you mean you're having a problem with the 119 sat since there are only 32 transponders on each sat.

What type of dish do you have? Depending upon several factors (dish type & size, how securely it is mounted/braced, and such) it may be possible to raise the dish. Without further details, it's going to be impossible to give you a definitive answer.

I had problems with 119 and raising the dish and even trying to move it further away didnt help. The tree had to go. And when the one in particular that was just blocking at the top went down, 90-100 strength on everything. I love trees but that SOB had to go.
