I have DIRECTV Slimline dish with 1-SL3 LNB. I typically use a friends Directv HD box, but am looking at getting a DISH Network Mobile HD Set-Top (Model #: VIP 211k) so that I do not have to borrow his and I can activate it when I need it when traveling. Will these 2 work together?

Not satisfactorily.
You could probably point it so that you would get one satellite to work ie 119° only or 129° only. But it will not work as a multisat dish for Dishnetwork. The internal switching is just not the same.

PATECO, looks like I am better off getting the DIRECTV H23 / H24 with B band converters, correct?
The 23 series doesn't use the b band converters. All others do, unless you are using a SWiM setup.
