Footnotes: Need to set up new service in Long Island, Bahamas. Have a house near ft. lauderdale. Need guidance.

I am looking to set up Directv service in Long Island, Bahamas. Its pretty far south on the chain of islands, but I have heard that some people have directv...although I haven't spoken with anyone about it yet. I need guidance and clarification on a few things, so please excuse my ignorance...this is a whole new concept to me.

I have a home near ft. lauderdale, if I were to sign up for directv service at my house, what would be the process for receiving service at my house in the bahamas? It seems that I will need to duplicate the satellite dishes that I have, and will need to take the receiver back and forth between the two houses. Is this the correct method? A lot of the posts regarding people trying to get service in the bahamas was from a few years ago, so I am not sure what has changed.

There is a lot of discussion about the channels/frequencies like 110, 119, 99, 101, and 103. What does that all amount to? What will I need to receive a standard lineup of channels?

Finally, what is the difference between spotbeam and CONUS? Will I be able to get the local south florida channels (I'd like to watch hurricane coverage when/if necessary)? Finally, I've looked at a few different "footprint" maps, which I don't understand, so how can I read them to understand what will work?

Sorry for the long winded post...thanks for the input.

Looking to revive this...how do I read these maps for coverage area? What will be the process to get the local Miami channels in the bahamas?

Also, I am looking to add satellite internet service. Can this be done using just the directv satellite? Or do I have to also get an exede or hughesnet satellite? How can I read their coverage maps? Exede uses viastat-1
