DIRECTV Remote Booking - HR20

Remote Booking is a feature of the HR20 (currently the only system to support it) and DIRECTV.com

I hope he is meaning that ONLY the HR20 in DirecTV's stable of units, and not that ONLY DirecTV itself. As ReplayTV owners have enjoyed this feature for years; it continues to be an awesome and overlooked feature; just like being able to D/L raw recordings to one's PC to archive onto DVD.

I've missed this feature for years after moving from my Replay's to E* 622 and then to D* HR20. SO much easier to program recordings with a mouse!

Just curious about something I see on the attached JPG: for the :30 shows et to record, there appears to be an indication that the show will record for 1h...is this saying that the recorder will record for 1 hour even though it is a 30-minute show? Or do you do that knowing that the show on AFTER the initial 30-minute show should be recorded as well? I do that for Daily Show/Colbert Report just so I don't use up an extra show in my Prioritizer list. Can you explain that real quick...thanks

No I have those title searches set to record and then store (its MY own personal save setting). So that 1hr just means to SAVE 2 eps. for that search title/catagory. Which I never bump because if it is something worth saving (like all the Two ... Men) I will D/L the raw file from the DVR and onto the PC that night to then burn 3 eps per DVD5.

Well I have been doing for so long I really have forgotten, but I will look tonight and look at a raw file with commercials and then after I remove them. Dfergie might know off the top of his head; he is also big with ReplayTV.

Thanks DF... I knew you would have that right on top; you prob did some file D/L off a ReplayTV sometime today I bet.. LOL!

(I THINK)

HQ = High Quality

MQ = Medium Quality

SQ = Standard Quality

gotcha...wish I had a fun toy like that. Does RPTV connect to the HR20, or is this solely a PC-based program? I thought I remembered RPTV being a STB/DVR like Tivo. What am I missing here?

What file format do you work from to burn your DVDs and what software do you use? I've donwloaded a couple of HD programs from my HR10-250 into MPEG then burned it onto a DVD only to be highly disappointed with the result. I'd probably start archiving if the PQ was worth the effort.

ReplayTV is a series of set-tops. The actual program we use with it to D/L is called DVArchive.. I am hoping for a version for the HR20. As for the file conversion and burning there are many different schools; I myself do not do the MPG/MPEG only technique.

Here is a small how-to for new users:

G4 - Feature - Burn ReplayTV to DVD

Here again, I think DF and I go about it a bit differently to the same end result. I use AVItoDVD, TMPGenc and NeroVision Ultimate with a top quality DVD5 -R (Taiyo Yuden #TYG02) or DVD9 +R (Verbatim DLP #MKM001) AND a top rated named burner!!! Explaining the step-by-step is a bit much for tonight, but we can try one day.

I'm really looking for the basics. What format you start from and what software you use to author the DVD. I have a program that works great on compressing video onto a cell phone. It just doesn't do a good job of creating a file that is "DVD" quality. The steps in between can be figured out. As you say though...it's late and not the right time to think too hard.
