Any update on DirecTV Pro since it apparently replaced the HMC announced in Jan 2005. I guess we will get another announcement at CES 2007 that will fizzle too.

"EL SEGUNDO, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Jan. 3, 2006

DIRECTV Pro is for the true technophile and home theater enthusiast. It combines the latest HD and DVR technologies, and differs from all other DTV products as it is designed to mount in a 19-inch rack, which is common in the home theater, custom installation market. Additionally, the Pro Home Theater has new features such as a front panel, HD LCD display, front panel transport controls, and additional control ports on the front and back. DIRECTV plans to launch the DIRECTV Pro at the end of 2006."

You gotta remember that's all CES is, mostly vaporware with most announcements from any company. Always been that way. So always look at CES stuff with a big grain of salt.

I am not going to jump down D*'s throat or make any acquisations, but I will say that we wont see anything around this or ucentric multi-room stuff anytime soon. Maybe eventually but not soon. I just dont think its a priority with D*.

Last I saw, it was available but not advertised...........
----------------------Pro HD DVR from DirecTV - D-HR20P

Friday, April 07, 2006

A new Pro HD DVR has been announced by DirecTV. This new pro HD DVR is not actually a consumer product and DirecTV are not releasing many details as to what it will actually be used for. DirecTV have said that the pro HD DVR will have a 750GB capacity and will have a price tag of $1500 to $2000.

The Pro HD DVR has the model number D-HR20P and other than the storage capacity and price tag little else is known. DirecTV have stated that the device will run on similar software to their new Mpeg4 HD DVR which is due for release this autumn.

The D-HR20P seen at the EHX trade show had a digital screen on the front of it, but what exactly this is used for is unknown. It has been speculated that this pro HD DVR, having such a large capacity and not being released for commercial use, will be used in the remote DVR type services that we recently reported. Stacks of the pro HD DVRs will record customers TV programs remotely. The pro HD DVR is also rack mountable which would be perfect for this type of use.
