Directv on demand w/ wireless usb adapter

Hey guys,

I have DVR now, and I want to use the on Demand Channel, but I can't get a hard wired connection near the box, is there a way I can use my netgear wireless usb stick w/ the box?

Nope. Your two best bets would be a wireless bridge for game consoles (they're basically wireless to ethernet bridges) or powerline adapters.

You can get two powerline bridges from DirecTV for $70. Much easier to setup than wireless.

You plug one into the Ethernet port on your HR20/21 then into an electrical outlet. Plug another one into an open Ethernet port on your router and into an electrical outlet. They communicate by sending signals through the electrical wiring of your home.

Since cable is only pushing 12 Mbps. a wireless G connection is fine (54Mpbs) While there is wireless N (even faster) remember modem speeds are only between 3-12Mbps currently. A wireless G or above is fine.

If he spent the money on HomePlug AV it would be better than wireless n. In any case, the speed of the Internet connection is going to be the limiting factor in DOD.

No you can't

You have to use a bridge.. ie into the #1 Ethernet port, the USB is for future use and AM21 OTA Tuners.

I use the Linksys WGA600N Wireless Gaming Adapter which Directv sells and therefore Linksys has written code for it into the HR2X DVRs so they instantly recognize that it is attached and then they provide the instant connectivity for it to your router.

There was a problem with it Verifying the WEP Passkey but Linksys has since fixed that problem after I brought it to Directv's attention. If you have a "G" Speed router which I have you will be fine. I will be upgrading to a WRT610N "N" Speed Router for the future but it will not give me anymore speed than the DVR will output.

I am Networking all 5 of my HR2Xs so I can use MRV (Multi Room Viewing) which is in testing phase and should be Active by March 1, 2009. That way I don't have to record certain things on all 5 DVRs so I can watch it on whatever room I am in. I simply record it on one DVR and send it to the DVR that I want to watch it with. Very Cool!!!

I just got a new directv HD DVR, and want to start using On demand....I would like to go the wireless route, but my router may be an 802.11B router, or at least I may have a device or two on my network, throtteling it back to B speeds....is that an issue? Do I need G as a minimum?
