But not EVERY show from a channel is always available, or it is embargoed for almost a YEAR!, or until the new season airs. I've learned this the hard way on shows I watch expecting them to be ON Demand, and they are not: taken down or never up in the first place. DVR is almost the only way I can really see shows WHEN I want to, even if it is months later.

While I am glad to see more competition in the form of DirecTV NOW, I am left a little underwhelmed. I really expected DirecTV NOW to come out of the gate with DVR functionality and more ready for Prime Time. Instead we got something much closer to SlingTV than Vue. Vue does have the best features and # of streams at once, DVR functionality TODAY, and more of any OTT MVPD at this moment, but it does come at a higher cost. But I can understand DirecTV being under pressure to get on this OTT train ASAP and not lose out on the low hanging fruit of today's cord cutters. They had to do something, and it is a pretty good START. Not what one might expect from DirecTV's legacy of being the "high end" service, but AT&T owns it today.
So, we got pretty much a new SlingTV alternative, and not much more. However, the more such services that are offered, the better. Competition is good, and if we are unhappy with either SlingTV or DirecTV NOW, we can easily change to the other service. That said, I do think things will get better for both DirecTVNOW and SlingTV (they both need to catch up to Vue). As for Sony Vue, they seem to have done it fully baked right from the start, but I'm sure DTV NOW and Sling will equal or surpass them at some point. For now, Vue is superior (at a cost), but DTV NOW and SlingTV are adequate.
So, it really boils down to which OTT MVPD service has the right package of channels for each person at the right price. I ant no Apple lover, but I would have welcomed the increased competition had they entered the OTT MVDP biz. I can only hope we will so more OTT MVPD's very soon.

Some of the fine print said you have to be in the "billing market" for streaming. Not sure what a billing market consists of.
That would be fine if they had all episodes. When I was using Directv, id find at times shows on USA, AMC, etc... might be missing two or three episodes in the middle of a season, while having shows before and after. Thats pretty dang stupid.
If it was a design where they had all live channels, and then 100% VOD for those live channels instead of DVR service, sure, that works.

I actually just found the answer on Forbes.com. Since there is no DVR functionality, there would be no pausing either.
I'll have to wait to next year it seems if I want DirecTV Now.
What devices besides cell phones will support DirectTV Now at launch? Is there a trial for non-Cricket phone users? I thought I read something about a 7-day trial.

yep no tv login apps is probably not 100% accurate, but if it doesnt support that many then it has lost its value to me. Thats probably how they control the streams. Vue needs to drop their price by about 5 bucks and get more locals and I believe its a winner so far
Hmm, that could be a deal breaker. I know for national Fox nfl (and college football) broadcast, I can use the Fox Sports go app and my Vue login credentials and watch the game live. It comes in handy since I can not receive FOX OTA.
And rebrand it as Sony Vue or something besides playstation, as to many that makes them think it is a console game of some sort, or at least a console locked software.
