DirecTV New HD channel additions and rumors

It looks to be staggered with some maybe showing up this week.

None of the 8 they are adding were on my wish list, but I welcome them anyway.

Now they just need to add Epix and bring Reelz to HD...

unknown right now but it sounds like it will be staggered. Hopefully H2 is one of the 1st they launch

if everything goes as expected, one batch will go live and then the next, probably the following week. my guess is jan. 23 and 30.

Looking at the other side's thread on D* adding HD channels it looks like some of the TEST ones usually go live about a week after they go into TEST.

Re: New HD coming soon on DirecTV

You can say that about a lot of channels.

That's besides the point. There is literally no HD content on GSN except a couple of the new shows that were taken from networks (Minute to Win It, Millionaire Password, etc). Even the new exclusive shows like Pyramid arent being shot in HD.

I mean, even TCM HD was worth it because they have remastered versions of the movies on. But GSN would be the third to last one they should add, just ahead of HSN and QVC.

Does anyone know when directv adds channels if they show in a custom list that I use or will I have to add them.

you have to manually add them but there is a big ass banner that says "___________ is now available in HD" so you'll know when its there

I'm surprised that Reelz and Ovation aren't already on HD (even more surprised that Dish has Reelz HD) since these are owned by Hubbard Broadcasting and they have a deal going back to the USSB days that D* needs to offer them favorable carriage deals before anyone else--it's how Reelz got picked up by D* first -- and how Ovation magically became available after years of being carried on only a few systems as an independant--until Hubbard bought them and they hit D*.

When do they go live?

There is speculation at DBS Talk from a hint that Satellite Racer posted, that they will begin a staggered launch beginning next week. He has stated that all 8 will not launch at one time, but the waves will come soon after one another.

I would like to see Fox Movie Channel, WE and more Encore in HD

Encore E has been in HD for some time. The only other multiplex channels in HD are Action which DTV is adding, and Drama. There is also Retroplex and Indieplex in HD. Maybe they will add those soon.

GSN has a lot of HD content. I get the channel on Time Warner Cable.

All their original shows produced after 2009 are HD. Everything under the "Original Programming" section on the left is HD.

Native HD shows include 1 vs. 100, Baggage, Catch 21, Lingo, American Bible Challenge, Newlywed Game, etc. And yes, The Pyramid.

It certainly would have been better than adding that shrieking troll, Nancy Grace's network.

DirecTV needs to make some smarter choices about what HD programming they carry or they will never be considered seriously by the HD enthusiast. This is a good start but I still won't subscribe to them until they add a few more key HD channels like Fuse, The Hub, OWN, Sundance, and of course the mentioned GSN.

Hmmm, none of the MUST had HD channels you want, I have ANY interest in either ....

See, everyone wants the HD they watch ... and think that the provide is garbage if they don't have it.

No, not really.

I was referring to the Internet. Every network should allow you to subscribe to them directly via the Internet like Netflix.

Our current system is broken beyond all repair.
