Hello,
I am a computer IT consultant. One of my main clients has DirecTV for Business Viewing (where they get to pay $599 for sunday ticket) for about 8 years now. Today about 7 receivers. The original installer is no longer around.
So I have been helping them with all D* issues. I am not certified or partnered, but thanks to lurking around these forums, I understand the technology. I help them replace failing receivers, call to activate new ones, sports package subscriptions, etc. I can aim, dither, and plan to parallel a SWM8 to the existing WB68 soon.

The only time D* has ever been "officially" out here, is to install a free 5LNB dish to replace the Oval 3LNB. This year, they also proactively sent us two free refurbs to replace some older (Sony) HD receivers.

I have been purchasing receivers thru local retail channels (old Circuit City, ABT, bestbuy), none of who, appear to know how biz D* works. They all state that I will be charged a monthly lease fee, which I sign off to (on behalf of my client).

To this day, we have NEVER EVER been charged any lease fees. Just they annual Biz Viewing and sports packages, and a monthly HD fee (around $15/mo).

Another more recent, smaller D* biz client I have, is billed a 4.99/rcvr/mo charge.

At this point, I dont want to rock the boat too much. Anytime I ask a D* biz CSR, they try to refer me to my installer (who no longer exists).

A. Is this client of mine, luckily grandfathered into a non-lease state?

B. Would that mean that we actually own all the receivers?
(one of the receivers I purchased from CC, a H20-600, died, and D* CSR told me to throw it out).

C. May/should I legit-ly purchase receivers the way I have been doing?

D. Any other comments.

Thanks!
