Directv droping local ABC station

CW and MyNetworkTV are NOT Sub Channels at least in this area they are not.

For example, in Detroit My TV is channel 20 and CW is channel 50.
Sub channels are the .1, .2 and .3 channels, you often find news on them or weather.

smaller markets they are. Larger markets they are not. Larger markets have enough full powered stations to go around for those nets (I'm the same way in Minneapolis)...His market (El Paso) has 5 full powered stations on the US side (some on the Mexican side).
According to wiki CW is on ABC subchannel and My Network is subchannel on CBS.

Looks like Directv willing to pay the higher fees for Disney owned channels is biting them now as they are mentioning it thinking they will get a higher rate for their channels as well. This is probably one reason why Charlie plays hardball.

I wouldn't worry about it, Directv usually resolves these disputes quickley.

On the other hand if you had DISH Network, based on their previous track record you could probably expect for the channel to be off the air for a few months.

I record mine as much as possible, just so no rain fade worries. Also watch live sports on it too.

I hate subchannels. CBS is well know for great PQ, especially on NFL, but the local here has like 3 or 4 subchannels, and the it just killed the PQ.

That is true. The Mobile CBS sucks on PQ. One reason I watch through D* out of Birmingham when a game is on. It is fantastic.

One redeeming quality of WKRG is that they have a powerful transmitter. I can pick it up with my antenna darn near laying on the ground from 70 miles away.

Mobile is good, after the transition. I'm using a Wineguard indoor and get all 6 at very good SS. Good thing about the changeover, is most folks can get some OTA now without a lot of work.

ABC And DirecTV

I received the same message from our local ABC affiliate in Colorado Springs, KVOR - channel 13. "Negotiations at an impasse, signal to be cut off on Monday August 23". It's possible that the same parent company owns both stations and is playing hard ball.

As far as receiving a substitute ABC station, that's probably not going to happen. I'm sure it would violate the DMA boundaries which Directv must adhere to. Your only option would be to try to receive the ABC station over the air if possible.

The only tv that has ota is in the kids room, but no Directv, the other two have Directv but no ota. The antennas on the mountain are used to transmit tv and radio. The distance the antennas can transmit is far due to the height from which they transmit.

I used to be able to pick up a couple of the El Paso stations and an Odessa station from the Guadalupes on a 6" B&W portable at night camping... slim chance of that now with digital I would think. My Directv OTA tuners seem to work better at home on some channels & my Dish receivers work better on others, go figure.

D* has NEVER carried sub channels ..... if this is what KVIA is bargaining for, good luck.

On the plus side, if you have a newer HD receiver you might be able to convince them to give you a free AM21 to pacify you.

BUT, is that main feed ALSO in HD? I believe that those PBS subs being carried, are ONLY being carried if the main station is ONLY in SD. Also, I believe those subs are ONLY being carried in MPEG4, even if the main SD feed is in MPEG2.

Chicago's 3rd PBS station is like this as well, while the other 2 ONLY have their main feeds carried, but both are also in HD.

If you’re a DirecTV customer, KRDO/Channel 13 may be missing from your line-up today.

Negotiations between the station’s parent company, News-Press and Gazette Broadcasting, and DirecTV are at an impasse, and the current contract with DirecTV expired Monday at 1 p.m.

At press time Monday evening, though, the signal was still being carried.

The impasse also affects satellite agreements in six other cities — Grand Junction, El Paso, Texas, Idaho Falls, Idaho and Palm Desert, Calif.

“No one locally is involved in the discussions,” said Tim Larson, KRDO general manager.

Larson said the station began running announcements last week on KRDO (105.5 FM and 1240 AM) as well as KRDO TV to give DirecTV viewers a heads up about the looming deadline.

“We don’t want viewers to be surprised,” he said.

KRDO reminds viewers that ABC programming and local newscasts will still be available free over the air or by satellite on the Dish Network and on Comcast, should the impasse continue.

The station had lengthy negotiations with DirecTV throughout 2009 that eventually produced an agreement to carry the signal in high definition. But that agreement also expired Monday.
