Or reduction in inventor INSTEAD of a price increase or a less of an increase than they would normally do
I can't recall that DIRECTV has ever not increased their prices about the same amount. The trick they use is creating new packages with less channels.

The could arguably add value to their SD offering by spreading their 101W bandwidth over fewer channels.

I don't know how much D* historically raises their rates every year. If it was routinely $3/mo, given their public announcement of their plans to eliminate channels, it would be good press to increase their rates a lesser amount like you say. Instead of $3, $2 is quite a difference (33%) given it's only a very small number of channels. Problem with something like $2.50 is they like to have their prices ending in $.99.

Based on what I paid when I had them long ago, they don't go up by much. I used to pay $95 a month for "Platinum" (now Premier). Then when they got locals, they were $5 extra a month. Now Premier is $115 with locals included. So in 10 years they have gone up $15 on the top package. I don't remember what the lower packages were, but I would think the hikes were across the board. So they have averaged $1.50 a year. That's less that what my old cable company hiked the price every year.

Jersey, interesting info, thanks. I jogged my memory and I recall that Platinum price as well. I knew the prices have been going up, but then just about everyting I've seen does that in time.
