Does anyone know if Directv will ever get a leasing or no committment program? I have a friend who isn't happy that he doesn't have ESPN-HD and would like to check out satellite but doesn't want the committment or up front cost of it. Voom is totally out of the question as I have already tried it and he wanted it but the installer kept cancelling on him.

I don't believe this is true, I gave a friend one of my old DirecTV receivers and DirecTV required a 1 year commitment to activate it.

Then dont want the new card in pirates hands, its to easy to sub and then cancel a month later meaning you have a card which you can tinker with.

No such thing. In order for a dealer to make any commissions, they must have the customer sign an annual agreement form. Maybe if you called DIRECTV directly...

It seems you are right. They no longer allow activation without a contract.I had a customer do this a few months back, that's why I said it could be done.
