"Photos and music are just the beginning. The Viiv functionality is already available as a public beta trial to all DIRECTV Plus HD DVR customers. Later this year, DIRECTV plans to enhance the photo and music experience, as well as provide the ability to stream video from Intel Viiv technology-based PCs via DIRECTV Plus HD DVRs."

At least they mention video, as the video sharing promised with microsoft and media center at the last ces has seemed to go out the window. How sophisticated it will be though, who knows. And later this year could mean anything.

Then there is wireless H/D from Apple, to Xfer files from the Net to your TV...

That's nice, but I think what I am looking for and many others is a way to actually store videos recorded on directv dvrs in file formats that can be burned to disk or transferred between networked pcs for archiving and sharing. You can already do this with tivos and many of the hd dvrs cable companies provide, albeit with some hacking.

Right now, the Apple TV only does iTunes video content. Sure, you can rip files into MP4 AAC, but who has that time?
