Directv 1R moves to Russian service

Directv will be moving Directv 1R from spare status to Russian service at 56E.
It will remain at 56E until a delayed Russian replacement satellite is launched and placed in service.
Then, 1R will be deorbited.
Only those transponders in the Region 1 service area will be available for use (12.2-12.5).

Well that was nice of them to help the Russians out!. Wonder how much Direct is getting to lease out this bird?.

Adios Directv 1R

Directv has received FCC approval to drift Directv 1R to 56E. It will start service there in early January and is expected to remain there for the 3.5 years of remaining fuel.
