I recently went from a Hughes GCEBO DTV receiver to the Hughes Tivo unit.
Basically to keep the digital audio optical going.
:no
The remote control is a let down to say the least, my other was RF and back lit. Can someone tell me if the remote out serial and IR is usable or 'for future use' as the manual noted and also if the UBS is a usable function.

I'll have to do a rework of the control system and this is very limited from what I can tell. Wish it had something more then IR in on it. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Right now none of the future use ports are being used in an official capacity. There are however hacks to enable the usb ports and also other hacks to actually install the SA version of 4.0 to allow Multi room viewing and MP3 and Photo viewing.

The DirecTivo units are basicly Tivos with 2 Sat tuners and no quality settings.

The "Peanut" remote is one of the best designs Ive ever used. once you get used to it the backlighting becomes a moot point as you dont even look at the remote to do anything.
