not a good idea

It's not really suitable , even if it was available to re-point.

Here's a recent discussion on the slimline dish.

Also, read this discussion using a Phase II or Phase III dish.

Additionally, you might get a chuckle out of a similar discussion on refitting a WildBlue dish for FTA use.
Another really bad idea.

Thanks for the reply.

By the way, I have second question - if in fact I was able to pick up FTA signals from that dish, could I put together a set-up that would allow both the FTA & Direct TV receivers to be connected to the same TV (via a signal splitter or some other piece of equipment)? How would that set-up look?

wont work for the following reasons (this is if the dish is aimed as its intended to at DirecTV)

101 has nothing FTA on it
110 uses an oddball LNB that converts frequencies
119 most of the LNB's on it are TP22-32 which DirecTV owns. Dish owns 1-21
99 & 103 are KA band and most FTA is KU Band :)

Thanks for the feedback and explanation - I thought it was probably a long shot at best.

I wasn't sure if it could pick up signals from bands in close proximity - ie. Intelsat Americas 5 (97º W).

I guess an additional dish won't be so bad (although my wife may disagree)! ;)

What about ..........

What about a single Lnb Dish Network dish aimed at 110?? I`m upgrading to a Slimline for my DirecTV service and now have an unused mast and RG-6. I also have an unused Dish Network single Lnb dish and was thinking of putting that up for FTA on my CoolSat 5000. Is it worth the effort??
Next question: What type of splitter would I need to add the 110 coax to my current C & Ku splitter which is fed from my 10` Weingard dish????
Thank you!!!

One additional question - there appears to be an empty slot on the LNBF arm that could possibly be retrofitted w/an additional linear LNBF (with a little mechanical adaptation). Wishful thinking?

Chuck - if you've got DTV service on their big dish, leave it alone
Realigning it after someone messed with it would be quite a task.
I was assuming eariler that you wanted to re-aim it yourself.

As for what everyone is asking about using an old 18-20 inch dish for...
IceBerg has already written that up quite well.
There's damned little worth bothering with on circular, and those dishes are too small to be used with linear LNBs.
You all probably already get NASA on an other existing system (I do on Dish) so who needs it again?

As for how to get the FTA and the Dish/DirecTV receiver to feed your TV set, I used to use my VHS video recorder for that.
It had RCA jacks in the rear, and another set in the front.
By clicking through the choices with the tape player remote, I got:
1). Satellite receiver #1
2). Satellite receiver #2
3). Local reception through the VHS player's tuner.
4). Play video tape.

As for re-using an existing mast, that might be possible.
Our advertizers have bundled deals on modestly priced dishes and LNBs.
Get one, and see if it'll fit your mast.
If not, it won't be much trouble to change out the mast while you are at it.
