So as a long time dish sub (10 years) I made he switch to DTV. This is not a review of the install nightmares as I cover that elsewhere.

1. Channel line up I am impressed with will probably drop down to a lower package after all the promos are over as there are redunant channels I just will not watch.

2. PQ on HD I say they are about equal with the exception of Tampa Locals which I find to be clearer over dish networks locals. But the Tampa locals in SD seem more softened or blured compared to Dish Tampa locals in SD something I dont like

3.Equipment. D- It was always a on going joke that Dish alway made there final release software was always like one extended beta test. I found both the D11 and The HR22 to be slow and unresponsive in navigating there UI. Some my other frustartions are not DTV fault with there software just ones of getting use to a new system. But I often finding my self having to hit the restart button every other day.

4. Over all Happiness I would say a B, While the install was a night mare and required me to yell a bit to get things done right. The service is excellent and I have to say that while I have not had a 100% positive review for there customer service department, it is nice not having to break out my indian insult book. Nice to have people who speak english as there primary language and dont pretend that there name is tom with it is ahieb.

I did and I got a thank you will will report this to the software development team.

The restarts only happen on the HR22 and I always have to press the red restart button to get it to work again, it always happens in the UI never when just watching tv. the tv picture has not frozen but the ui has and it will not respond to the remote control or front panel controls.

Just curious if the software was updated during the installation. If not you might want to force an update. Thinking about it you might want to force an update anyways just to see if it helps. Go into the menus and select restart receiver. After you hit the dash key on the remote the receiver will restart. As soon as you see the display come back press 02468 on the remote. This will force a download of the current release of the software. The download may look like it hangs at 97%. Just be patient with the download and don't restart the receiver in the middle of it.

Also, if you have the HR22 network connected you might want to remove it from the network and see if the problem stops. It's been reported by some that other devices on their home network sometimes cause issues with the boxes.

Well the HR22 auto updates within 30 minutes of the install if not almost instantly. But yea a full factory reset sounds like it is needed. You shouldn't have to reset it that often.. Im on 3 months with mine and have not *HAD* to restart it yet.

UI Slowness I agree, something needs to be done about that, I have never used Dish but HRxx are horribly in terms of remote response.

Just out of Curiosity do you have the HR22 plugged into a power strip/Surge Suppressor? It is known that they can cause problems, if that is the case try it directly in the wall.

The software did update about 1 minute after we had tv when the installer installed it.

Now I dont know how to read this

From the HR22
Software
Orginal Ver: 0x235
Past Upgrade : 0x2af, Today 3:54 AM
Future Upgrade" Not Scheduled
Completion code 0
Internal Temp 117F

Looks like you just had the newest software load this morning. You will find that it should hopefully be a bit more stable.

If your lock-ups continue, I would call technical support and insist on having the box replaced... that is if you have already tried removing the network cable (if attached) as suggested earlier. It is very rare that the box lock up in the menu, or at all.
