I recently recieved a direct single lnb dish and reciever. I honestly dont' even know the model of it yet (I dont get it until tomorrow) Without a subscription to direct, is this pretty much junk, or can I use this for anything?

might be able to use the dish, 99% sure you cant for anything other then playing around. the lnb's are for sure of no use.

A DirecTV receiver is useless for FTA, the 18" dish you got with it will get you a couple of unencrypted channels uplinked by Dish Network (NASA, Angel One, and a couple of banner channels). You'll still need a FTA DVB receiver.

To pick up most FTA channels, you'll need a 30" or larger dish with a linear Ku FSS LNBF.

Attach the dish securely to receiver with a good length of coaxial cable. Mount the dish on the front of your boat, use the receiver when you're out in the lake and need an anchor.

Makes the boat look high-tech, and helps keep it from drifting.
