ANALOG CABLE FEEDS
It appears that after analog OTA broadcasts end after 2/17/09, cablecos will be required to feed stations signals over the cable in both analog and digital formats. That way, new digital cable boxes will not be needed immediately. See this link.

DIGITAL TRANSITION DATE
There is a chance that the law setting the digital transition date may be overturned on a technicality, per this link. Also see this link, thanks to Geronimo. Yes, this was posted elsewhere, but I repeat it here as it applies in this consolidated update.
