Does anyone know if both MPEG 4:2:2 and DVB S2 are backwards compatible?

What I mean is if a receiver is 4:2:2 capable, will it also work with both MPEG 4 & MPEG 2; and , if a receiver is DVB S2 capable, will it also work with DVB S & DVB?

I would say "most likely". But I'd check the specs.

The specs tor DVB-S2 spells out backward compatability to enable DVB-S reception. To my understanding, a DVB-S2 QPSK transmission is receivable with a DVB-S receiver. It just ignores the Pilot ( and the associated benefits) if present. Adherence to the specifications is ultimately up to the manufacturer.
DVB is the family descriptor of subtypes. DVB-S, DVB-T, DVB-S2, DVB-C2, etc.

last I checked yes. But there are very few 4:2:2 receivers out there

DVB-S & DVB are the same last I checked and yes it will do both

now note that there are older receivers out there that will only do MPEG2 HD and not MPEG4 HD...but if it does MPEG4 then it will work with MPEG2
