difference between SWM and other option

I don't know what exactly the other option is, but what is the difference between that and SWM? Which is preferred to have?

Are you thinking of SWM and Slimline ?

Slimline is the newer dish that D* is currently using, you have a few different ones out there.

Basically you need a line for each tuner for the DVR's.
With the SWM you can do the same thing with only one wire as the SWM stacks the signal on the single line.

SWM = Single Wire Multiswitch
