Difference between DVR and TIVO

Hello, I am a long time user of Direct TV with TIVO. I reciently talked my brother into getting TIVO. Today however, I learned that Direct TV and Tivo have parted ways. It looks like he will have to go with Direct DVR instead of tivo. Can anyone tell me how much difference I will see between the format of the TIVO and Direct DVR. Are the similar enough in operation and appearance that I can help him navigate over the phone.

The R15 is more similar to the DirecTiVo than other cable-based DVRs I have used, but there are subtle differences. If you are used to giving tech-support to relatives over the phone, then I suggest downloading the manual and reading up:

Otherwise expect some frustration.

The R10 is nothing like the R15, you will find it very hard talking someone through problems if you are used to TiVo. Search the internet for the R10(TiVo) and get your brother one of those.

I saw 3 brand new R10's yesterday at a Wal-mart in a rural location.
