Nostradamus say... Dish Directv merger headed our way!![]()
Other than sports, I can't think of any channel that is on Direct and not on other sources. What specific channels are they looking for? And possibly they need to google for each of those channels to find where they are besides Direct.FWIW: I just tried Sling, and you can definitely not get everything on it that you can get on Dish or DirecTV, at least not at the moment. The potential is there though.
My parents are sick of the high prices and equipment problems they've been having with DirecTV. They want to switch, but neither Dish, Spectrum, or OTT offer the channels they like to watch, so I am not sure what to tell them to do.

Probably something a little more competitive with IPTV like "RealTV"Guess if the merger were to happen, they could rename the service 1 of 2 names...
DishDirect or DirectDish

That’s a fairly broad list. I think Mediacom has almost all of those, as does Dish. They might have to do some compromising which is not at all uncommon for those wanting to cut the cord.I can't find a channel package from a competitor that fits the bill, and doing multiple OTT is not really an option. They are quite old now, and aren't up for switching apps all the time.

And I understand the not wanting to use multiple services, but that is the reality of cord cutting. There simply isn’t any one of them that will have all the channels that you want, and the other part is if you insist on keeping all the channels you now have that you really want, it is highly possible it will cost the same or more.
Apple’s TV app has the most potential for managing multiple apps though it isn’t broad enough yet.

They may have to just ride it out.

Philo has 48 channels and unlimited dvr and 3 streams at a time for like $17.00 a month This is perfect for my wife who likes decorating shows , home improvement and Ghost stories. She has our dvr at home loaded up with over 50- 100 episodes of this crap. Sling tv needs to come up with 100 hrs on their cloud dvr. The 50 hrs is enough for the few cable shows I watch and for the news channel programs I watch daily. Sling blue has 3 streams as well. This is perfect for my home come the first of the year. I will go with this combo and my Tablo to give me all the network programming we watch and at no fee. There is no perfect solution right now but this will fill our needs. Sling blue is $25.00 + cloud dvr $5.00 + News pack $5.00 =$35.00. So for $35.00 + 17.00 Philo =$42.00 a month and no FEES for additional receivers. Not to mention the commercial skip on the 4 tuner Tablo for the ota networks at $.00 cost now that I have lifetime subscription . This is the way I will fight the higher costs come 2020.Still no quality cloud based DVR, though

Still another person who thinks broadband is universal
A merger between Dish and DirecTV is like chupacabra. We all swear that it exists, but nobody has ever seen it.![]()
I think they would be willing to switch to Dish, but there are other issues with that. The EA sats are directly out their front door, and I'm pretty sure my mom is going to nix any dishes in her flower beds.
