Ill post some pictures of some tripods on roofs here in Michigan. Give me a few days.
Yes they are used alot on roofs for LOS issues in certain areas.
They are also used for apartments that dont allow you to attach to the building. Some apartments will not allow the use of clamps.
In either situation the Tri-pod is not free.
