Did DISH f***up my HDMI again?

My 622 HDMI connection quit working after 4 or 5 months. I can confirm that my problem is definitely mechanical. When the picture first disappeared I walked over to the box to see what was wrong. With every footstep the picture came on and went off. I pushed on the front of the box and the picture came on. I pushed on the top of the box and it came on. Finally I jiggled the connector and got it to stay on for almost a week. It eventually went off and nothing I did would make it come back on.

I called tech support and would you believe that after explaining what happened he insisted it was a software issue and refused to replace it. I asked him how jiggling the connector could affect the picture if it was a software problem. He wouldn't budge. I asked to talk to a supervisor and he said none were available. I asked to talk to engineering. He said no one talks to engineering, not even them. At that point I hung up. I could see I was getting nowhere.

It is obvious to me that I have a mechanical connection problem. However, I couldn't prove that it wasn't a bad DVI/DVI cable or a bad HDMI/DVI adaptor so I replaced the cable/adaptor to eliminate the possibility. As expected I still have no picture with the new DVI/HDMI cable. No amount of wiggling or jiggling will now make the picture come back.

I called Dish one more time to try another CSR. This time the csr is sending me a replacement 622 but she wouldn't guarantee that it would fix my problem. Unfortunately, if Dish is not admitting to mechanical problems, they aren't resolving the issue and the new box will probably break in time also.

Has Dish admitted to anyone that there are mechanical problems with the HDMI connectors? I am using a component cable for now but the picture is definitely not as sharp and the dark shadows have a redish tint to them. I'm anxious to get my HDMI back. Doesn't anyone have an engineering contact at Dish that can accept user input? This box should go to them.

I had problems with HDMI on a 211 after getting a software update. Dish sent new receiver with 268 on it and worked perfect. I disabled software updates. I woke up this morning turned on tv and receiver and found no picture only sound. channeled up and had picture. channeled back down picture for a second then blank only sound. I then got picture back after reboot. Went into menu to check software version and its 340 now. Checked my update setting and its still set to disable......WTF
I tried HDMI on various devices and found it to be flaky. Since I have the component I/O available I use that. I always thought it was my TV until I started reading here and AVS ... sounds like HDMI is a beta-technology based upon mfg. implementation at this point. It will be nice when this is all there is and it all just works.

After two phone calls to tech support I finally used the online tech chat and got dish to send me a new 622. My hdmi works great now. there is definitely a hardware problem.

Follow-up to my previous post...

I received my replacement 622 today. HDMI now works fine. I talked to the CSR that activated the new box about my experience with the first CSR. He agreed that it definitely sounded like a mechanical not a software problem and that he would have authorized a replacement if I'd talked to him. He said that I was the first customer to report a mechanical problem to him. I told him about Sat Guys and all the people having similar problems and asked him to report it to Engineering. He said he has no direct input path to management but would see what he could do. He advised me to give Dish input on their web sight.

I will do that but also I will write up a complete description of my experience and include it with my old box and my RA#.

Email it to the ceo@echostar.com that is the executive resolution team. They are more on top of it than anyone else at E*.

Got my replacement last Thursday. HDMI is back but pause bug and very poor OTA signals compared to my old 622. Losing OTA signal at 68 to 70%. How strong a signal does the OTA tuner need to hold a HD Channel?
