Wow! The ultimate "burn-in" !!

I have a 6 y.o. Dell Inspiron 5000 that also had a battery recall for essentially the same problem. Not only did Dell handle that with overnight service/no hassle return (put the return into the same box, relabel it with the provided label, and call an 800-number for a pick-up), but they gave us an additional battery and a $30 credit for our "trouble". The newer batteries also had a higher mA/hr capacity, IIRC. I'm still using both of them 5 years later, tho' their capacity has diminished a good bit. I hope they treat the current customers just as well, but with 4+ million to recall, that's a tall order...!

Potentially affected batteries were sold with the following models of Dell notebook computers or separately as secondary batteries:

* Latitude: D410, D500, D505, D510, D520, D600, D610, D620, D800, D810

* Inspiron: 500M, 510M, 600M, 700M, 710M, 6000, 6400, 8500, 8600, 9100, 9200, 9300, 9400, E1505, E1705

* Precision: M20, M60, M70, M90

Dell Battery Laptop Recall Program

If you have a Dell laptop computer that was made between April 2004 and July 2006, there is an 18% chance the battery is being recalled because it may burst into flames. To see if your Dell laptop is at risk, go to dellbatteryprogram.com or call Dell at 866-342-0011. To be safe, remove the battery from the computer and run it solely on electricity. More. . .
