If you're getting Tiger Woods I'd get 2008 - demo looked way better than my copy of 07.
I agree on Motorstorm.
Try Ratchet and Clank Future or Uncharted (although that comes out next week also).
LEGO Star Wars just came out and is fun as well, although a little more on the "light-hearted" side...

You could opt for a Gamefly membership... @ $13/mo you could have 1 game out at any given time, and if it turns out to not be something you like shoot it right back. Otherwise I'd try demos till something grabs you.
For older/bundle games though, I'd go the eBay/Craigslist route.

neutron, download unchartered demo from the ps store to try it, its AMAZING, also warhawk is alot of fun if you are into that, I love it. whatever you do, dont get assassins creed.
yep, you can get a few hours of play off the demos... I agree on Uncharted: Drake's Fortune, may pick that up this weekend, and will be getting Lego StarWars, my wife liked that when we rented it for the 360 and we will probably pick that up soon as well..
There are several titles depending on what you like. Uncharted Waters just broke (like FarCry on the PS3)and has the slickest graphics and the best animation of any console game out there right now. Rachet and Clank (platformer) is a load of fun and looks like a Pixar cartoon at times. Lego Starwars - The Complete Series (another platformer) is out and I love playing this with my daughter. We wack each other and it is very funny to play. Heavenly Sword is a hack and slash that is too good to be true. Looks great and plays great, very interesting story and I really like controlling the projectiles to their targets. One of the coolest features in any game!
And then there are the oldies but goodies, Resistance Fall of Man is a must have if you like shooters. And the Online Play with 40 people at one time is just crazy! Motorstorm is a very cool dirt racer, looks good, plays well but I would try to get this one at a discount as there really is not alot of tracks. And of course Ninga Gaiden -- which is gorgeous and very hard to play. Not for the faint of heart and if you have not played the game the PS3 version is the best version.
Lot to pick from -- depends on what you like. Some of the older titles should come down in price for XMAS. Right now I am trying to finish Heavenly Sword, problem is I keep going back to improve my score on areas I have already been thru. I really like hack and slash titles and I am hoping that Onimusha shows up on the PS3. I have all of these games and my next buy will probably be DMC4 (I have enough to keep me busy thru the new year). I really like that series and I hope the new game is closer to the first then the last one in game play.
