Will LeBron stay or go once his contract is up in 2010? This is the million dollar question that all of Cleveland is trying not to think about.
In the argument for LeBron staying in Cleveland........
LeBron was born and raised locally in Akron, Ohio. Don't forget that LeBron is a family man. His mother, girlfriend (High School sweat hearts), and two young sons are all living in Ohio and he's not likely to uproot them all for a move to another city.
LeBron also is in the process of completing an addition onto his home in a suburb of Akron. The renovation is due to be complete soon and will feature a casino, two-lane bowling alley, barber shop, aquarium, sports bar, theater and a recording studio.
The 35,000-square-foot, 11-bedroom home is built on 5.6 acres. 19 families live within 800 feet of James' new home and many wonder why James did not choose to live in a more secluded area. LeBron said that he wants to be near friends and family.
As far as money goes, under the current rules, only the Cav's could potentially offer LeBron a maximum contract of six years. Other teams could only offer a five year contract for a slightly smaller salary per year.
In regards to endorsement money, potential higher earnings in a bigger market is a bit overrated IMO. With today's world-wide media coverage, a mid-market star can still appeal nationally just as well. No matter where he goes, his fan base isn't likely to change dramatically.
