Dad still owns a Echostar 4000! Any chance of getting a 942 @ a 250 lease fee?

My Dad has been a loyal DISH subscriber for at least 5 years now, and still has his Echostar 4000 receiver.

He pays for his programming a year at a time, for the last 5 years.

He recently got a nice HDTV ready 53 inch Hitachi wide screen tv and I gave him a HT system (not a "box" one, but a customed designed one!).

Any chance they will offer him a 942 @ 250 + lease, if I call and ask for one?

Any suggestions?

Well, I talked to a nice , polite CSR from Dish, and she was unable to help me out.

So, I have sent an e-mail to Dish and we will see what happens.

Good Luck, I have been a customer since 1998 and have AEP plus all the movie channels, they said NO WAY.

Step 1: Buy 942 off ebay, make sure it's got valid R00s and S00s before buying
Step 2: Activate 942 and use it
Step 3: When ready for a new box or new service provider, or after ayear.. list on ebay.
Step 4: Make back most of what you paid for it.

It's a lot cheaper than "leasing" I'm sure. I'd rather pay $500 for a 942 and keep it as a pretty paperweight than give dishnet $250 for the privilege to have them take it back later. *sigh*

Now if only there were a way to escape those bad firmware updates they keep sending to people that go this route.

Are buyers on ebay really going to pay back most of what a 942 costs now in a year or so with new MPEG4 boxes on the market?

I'm worried about this; otherwise, I would have bought a 942 months ago.

Last I checked, the 942 was firmware updatable to handle MPEG4 -- or at least had components capable of it? Perhaps I'm way off?

Well this is interesting.

After e-mailing CEO@echostar.com , I was contacted by someone, and spoke both by e-mail and phone, and they would NOT offer me the 942.

I am amazed!

My dad loves dish, has had no problems, other than having to use a 5+ year old Echostar 4000, and pays for his programming by check, a year at a time.

Sadly, I guess my Dad's options are to either spend a lot on a 942, or switch to either TWC or DTV.

Did you speak to a Customer Retention Specialist and use the threat that you would DUMP Dish if they would NOT make you happy????? Sometimes they are the ones that can make it happen when no one else can!!!!!!!

I was very specific in my written e-mails and on the phone that, while I was very happy with dish, paying 800 bucks for something that is available from competitors for much less, I would choose to cancel dish and go with a competitor.

I specifically mentioned Time Warner Cable.

id try emailing again hopefully get a different person. Give them the phone number of the account too so maybe the will look at it and see what a good customer he is!
