Hell, they wont tell us what changes they've made to the beta releases we're supposed to download and test. What makes you think they'd tell us what their plan is for a new satellite?

There plan is to launch the satellite into geo synchronous orbit.
Speaking of plans, it appears that DIRECTV's plans involve about 57 days of maneuvering to a geo test orbit, 4 weeks of testing and about three weeks of sliding it into place.

How do you know the plan isn't to take out one of Dish's satellites in an accidental collision. But you're right, it would first have to acheive geo sync orbit to do that... LOL

Funny, you'd think these guys would start arming the satellites so they could periodically shoot down one of the competitions satellites.
Okay, that's 15 weeks & a day. If they stick to it, then it could go live as early as mid-April.
Actually 5 months is a very long time for D*.....
They usually are within 45 days or there about for the testing required.
Remember, there is a lot of testing done by other parties before it's handed off to D*, so some of it's not all D* with the delays.
While I'm sure that someone will blame the duration on Boeing testing, this one is extraordinarily long.
They've learned something from the previous launches that is probably scaring the hell out of them fuel consumption-wise. This would appear to be a case of taking twice the normal time to reach the testing orbit. The testing and slide to home aren't all that extraordinary given the BSS payload.
What is the % of sucessful launches from DBS providers' payloads in this launching business? Aren't most of these launches "turnkey" things by now? Just curious.

Why give either company a blame, as long as it goes up and does what it is suppose to do and everyone is safe doing it ......
It could be the time on Boeing's side or it could be on D*'s side, but you would expect D* to want to get it up and running ASAP.

Every once in a while you'll have trouble.
Yes, it's old hat for tehm to place a sat in space, but it's not D* that uis actually placing it there.
Boeing gets it there, runs all thier testing and then hands it off to the people that are using it, in this case it's D* then D* has to run all thier test to verify that everything is working.
4-5 months just seems like a long time.
Don't know that HD or not HD has anything to do with it, they have many sats up there already that do HD that didn't take that long .... also, I'm not sure that a particular SAT is HD or Not HD, I think it's in the info given that determines that.
