The new satellite will boost DIRECTV's HD capacity by 50 percent, to more than 200 HD channels, increase the number of local HD markets DIRECTV will serve and significantly expand movie choices on the DIRECTV Cinema and DIRECTV on Demand services. DIRECTV offers more than 130 HD channels today and delivers local HD programming to 138 markets, representing 92 percent of U.S. TV households.

So the only thing they are promising with all that HD capacity is some locals and more PPV/On Demand.

I do not see anything in that statement that indicates the new bird will be entirely PPV and locals. They will be increasing the number of HD channels, they will add more HD PPV and provide locals. 50% is a huge increase. Wait for it....

Shoot. Looking at these folks and the way they act, I'd say 75%

I'm still interested on the TiVo thing. My two new HR22's will do in the meantime.

Yep, that's who posted the info. He's said that 95% of the folks will be happy with what gets added.

Like I said in the other thread, this is their last chance with me. Been down this road before and they better deliver.

I'm still interested on the TiVo thing.

Getting impatient here too.

DirectV made a promise, they then failed to deliver. They then added a bunch of crap which took away capacity for what they promised ensuring the promise could not be delivered.

Like I said, they better deliver.

They launched D10 and added a TON of national

D11 was more for Locals, and they did a great job their.

Does the amount of HD PPV stink? Yes. Enough for me to cancel? No. At least they arent cramming more channels on and overtaxing tp's.

If someone at DIRECTV reads this they'll be really scared.

:haha

They should be.

For 12 years I've subscribed to the Premier package and every premium sports package available.

Never complained, put up and shut up. The press release on this just pissed me off this morning.

You forget whatelse D11 did:

- Allowed for MPEG4 versions of all the MPEG2 HD channels
- Added a bunch of RSN full time and part time channels
- Allowed for every NFL-ST/SF game to be shown in HD
- Allowed for NASCAR HotPass channels to be in HD
- They did add some new national HD channels, just not what folks were hoping for

All good stuff.

One must you remember that you are not the only customer they are trying to please.

But hey, Im an unloyal sub and do not discount anyone who switches because they are not happy.

What I think folks dont realize but the more channels you add, the more Directv has to pay out usually in a form of a price increase to its customers. So while I like having more HD channels, there is not a single channel I am willing to pay extra for. I got my Comedy Central and I have all the primary sport and local channels I need so I quite frankly dont care about another channel except that this brings backup bandwidth in case a satellite fails. Good insurance policy for my package.

A D* employee over at DBSTalk has posted:

Some more great things coming in 2010...a ton of new HD channels in a number of genres (Premiums, base package channels, sports, etc), TiVo DVRs coming back, MRV, 3D Channel, a slew of new local channel markets, a few additional things to be mentioned later in the year that will also be well received.

IMHO, until they actually start lighting up the actual channels I'm not going to get all worried about it.
sounds like it will be a hell of a year for D* .and as already posted, satracer's word is very reliable!

I agree with Brewer, except that BBCHD and ESPNU are pretty big misses by both Dish and Directv.

I would agree with that. There are pockets of missing channels but I think the days of large channel adds are over unless they come up with different pricing tiers because I for one do not want to add 30 channels to the base package and pay $10 more. I would prefer to do alacarte and pay for 30 channels (at $1 a piece) but thats a whole nother topic and discussion.

People don't have a problem with price when that price adds value. Yes, sports have value for some, myself included, but it came at the cost of channels which have considerably more value. Better than half of the programing on the RSNs is duplicative, the rest is usually blacked out unless you have a subscription. That doesn't provide a lot of value at the end of the day. Trying to sell the public on 130 channels of HD when a large percentage of it is an RSN or PPV feed doesn't have much value either.

Like I said, time for DirecTV to deliver.

I am also starting to re-evaluate my DirecTv bill/costs vs. what I'm getting out of it. The price increase is really going to test my wife's resolve as she was already complaining to me about the DirecTv bill. I need DirecTv to give me something with the D12... "Hey honey, we've got Travel Channel and AMC and Fox Movie Channel and Style and ESPNU and Fuse and the rest of the HBO package, etc, etc. all in their splended HD glory!"...if not, I fear I may be fitted for a cable bundle deal by the end of next summer.

Yeah, my wife is getting fed up too. A bundled U-Verse package with every channel would cut about $40 a month of my bill right now and she's been shopping prices. She's a football fan living out of her market so DirecTV survives due to Sunday Ticket, but there's only so much she's going to take as well. With the kind of service DirecTV has been providing the last year or so, they'd be buried without Sunday Ticket.

I can tell by your many posts today that you are fed up with D*. I get that! Me, I love it and I am waiting on ESPNU HD this first quarter(hope that stays true)... I can take the price increase that is coming up with the new satellite in space.

But you have D* so you could go with E*! They do have the red zone channel for pretty cheap, from what I heard....

Some small advice, I would wait to see what D12 has to offer with new channels. Multiple sources say we will be happy with the channel additions. I believe that too be true this time! Or, you could suspend your account for 6 months, go with another provider, and see what D12 does throw our way in 6 months and then reactivate if you like what you see...

P.S. I think Superfan will be free next year with all this HD now! Just a thought that it will be included like they do with Extra Innings...

Hope it works out for you either way!

Remember, those HD PPVs are there for a reason. The main reason why they have so many is because of their sports packages. Instead of looking at them as PPV channels, look at them as ST channels that are being used to make money when ST is not in use.
