Will a sl3-s LNB work with a SD receiver model D12? I know I can't get HD with this, but can I get SD? Also, do I need a power inserter for this LNB to work? I am using the 22" x 32" SlimLine dish. The LNB has a single output. complete model # is SL3SPIG-wnc. I think it is a SWM also ? ? Any advise is appreciated. Thank you.

It's an SWM LNB and the D12 will work OK with this, to get SD channels. But you MUST have a 21v power inserter, that's how the LNB gets powered. And you will get Atlanta SD locals fine, they are on the 101 satellite not 119.

Some local sd channels are on 119, many are on 101, which is where the Atlanta sd locals are.

Sat' set up

When using my D12 receiver to align the dish, and when I go to set up; do I select SlimLine-3 on the drop-down menu? and . . .SWM (not multi-swtich) on the 2nd drop-down menu? For HD alignment, do I first maximize Sat 101, and the Sat 99?

Since you are using a non hd receiver, I don't think it matters. The 101 elevation and azimuth are all you should need. The D12 won't recognize the 99 or 103 satellites.

If I get a H24 HD receiver, do I select SlimLine-3 and SWM on the set up menu? I don't have a signal meter, am trying to use the on-screen set up that shows the signal strength with the audible beeps. Thanks for your advice.

For any H/HR series box, it should self select the correct setting. If it doesn't, then select the Slimline3 swm.

Edit: For any H/HR20 and above series box.

When you connect it to the dish, it will probably detect the SWM automatically

I finally got a 21v power inserter. So, I come from my dish (SL3-S SWM), connect to 'power to SWM' on the inserter, and then connect from 'signal to IRD' straight into my D12 receiver. I still cannot get a signal when using the 'beeps' on the TV. It says 'SWM not detected'. Do I need a 1 x 2 or 1 x 4 splitter between the pwr inserter and D12 receiver? Thank you for your patience with a newbie.

No, you don't need a splitter. It may need some signal from the satellite before it detects the lnb, but I thought it did it without one.

The only thing I don't like about DirecTV HD channels is that it takes 5 - 8 seconds to switch channels, staring at a blank screen in between. Not like the old days with cable when you can quickly surf up and down in less than a second.

Aren't you using a D12 receiver? They don't get hd channels.

Sounds like your box has native set to on, turn it off and set your resolution to 1080, that should fix your problem.
