DIRECTV to continue supporting TiVo
DIRECTV has announced it will continue to support its TiVo customer base, even though the small-dish satellite programming provider recently rolled out its own digital video recorder.

"DIRECTV customers with a combination DIRECTV/TiVo receiver (as well as customers with a stand-alone TiVo receiver) will continue to receive the full array of programming and DVR features that they receive today," says Bob Marsocci, the company's vice president of communications. "DIRECTV 's TiVo customers are among our most loyal and satisfied subscribers and we will continue to support their TiVo service long-term."

Yeah in other words whatever comes out tomorrow won't necessarily be supported....

Yup but dont expect the Interactive bells and whistles on the new recievers to be available on the Tivo units.

Maybe not, however it is the first and only public announcement from D*
that they will continue to support Tivo.

Technically they still support the ultimate TV, but if it breaks and you have the protection plan don't expect another one.

Yea but when the Ultimate TV breaks you can't replace the drive. The Tivo's life is almost infinite if you keep replacing drives every time one goes out.

This might seem like a silly question,but doesn't the tivo need the software to run? if you replace the hard drive, how would one get the software back?

basically they're saying that you will still be able to use your tivo with atleast the services that are available today. it doesn't really say anything new other than it should quiet the people who think that their tivos will be turned off and forced out. it doesn't say that directv WON'T upgrade the software again or come out with new models, but it does seem to put tivo in the same boat as UTVs

Also what they are not saying is if they decide to move everyone to mpeg4 your screwed as well.
