I spend a little time on a bass fishing forum, and the following was posted today by one of our members.

I thought this was interesting:

DirectTV did good by me!!!

We got this flyer from Dish about a free HD DVR and free HD along with HBO for six months free and a few more channels than I currently have.
We really like Direct and not having to have two satellites to get HD programming where we live, but for less money and an HD DVR free I would have switched.
Called Direct this morning and the guy says to hold on and talked to someone and they gave us the exact same thing Dish was offering for 2 dollars less a month. Don't have to pay for the DVR ($299). Gotta love it...
So thank you Direct....

It does happen, although it depends a lot on how your credit is and other factors, so some folks will get free stuff while others wont.
