In regards to the new season of MLB Extra Innings, I know I should be grateful for being a DirecTV subscriber and also a subscriber of MLB Extra Innings since the other providers still do not offer the package, however, I must say I am disappointed that DirecTV has renewed the package, paying substantially more in rights fee than before, comparing the package they offer with that of MLB.TV, and still DirecTV will not offer any off-the-air broacasts within the package. The current schedule still only offers those broadcasts made available on regional sports networks. I do not know how they can compare themselves with that of MLB.TV in terms of the games offered in the package. Granted the picture quality is much better on television than on the computer screen, and DirecTV does offer HD broadcasts, but without the off-the-air broadcasts, several games per week will be unavailable, especially for those fans of such teams as the Phillies, Padres, and Blue Jays. I was hoping with the advent of a new contract, that perhaps the DirecTV package would mirror the MLB.TV package in content since there are many more dollars changing hands. Even if DirecTV is unable to offer the feeds of Comcast Philadelphia or Channel 4 Padres due to screwy restrictions, if they were able to carry all of the available off-the-air feeds (all of which are offered in the local markets DirecTV serves via local-into-local), the games not available through Comcast Philly or Ch. 4 Padres would still most likely be available in the package. But apparently MLB must be the one that is not allowing this to happen - I can't imagine why DirecTV would not allow this to happen. So I guess it's seven more years of only a partial package. Any thoughts on the subject?
